Last Thursday we hosted our first ever Personalization Chat (#pzchat) to fuel an ongoing discussion of personalization. A number of our friends from the Personalization Summit took part, as well as several new faces. We introduced a new question every 10 minutes and watched as the conversation took a life of its own. We started off at the beginning, asking tweeters why is personalization so valuable in the first place?! It was interesting to see the many ways personalization is utilized and defined, but one common theme stayed consistent, #relevancy.
Zappos, Netflix and Pandora were brought up consistently as companies that are using personalization really well, and some of the conversation even moved personalization offline to that exceptional in-store customer service we all love:
How we measure and implement personalization into business models was also discussed. Founder and President of GroupVine, @Thecommunity, guy had a insightful take on measuring success:
Data was also discussed as a key tool in implementing personalization and building experiences that mirror real world interactions:
We closed the chat by asking,'What if personalization went away?' Well, what if it did!
All in all, it was an great start to an exciting ongoing conversation. We want to thank everyone who participated and are already looking forward to next months. Next #pzchat is scheduled for Thursday, September 29th, at 11am PT.
